Sh. Kotadia is a pleasing personality and is quite known in the Philately world. Born on 13th February 1948, Sh. Kotadia owns a Drums and Barrel manufacturing company. It was since his school days that he began collecting stamps, that was around 1957-58. Sh. Kotadia, adding humour to the conversation, admitted that it were the extra curricular activities in the school that drew him towards the stamps world. Just to secure more marks in the activites, he began stamp collecting and eventually made it a part of himself! He has also been a known philatelic writer and has written two books named, “Indian Inland postcard with advertisement” and “Indian Inland lettercard with advertisement”. Sh. Kotadia has also won a large silver medal for his unparallel writing abilities. Soon in December, Sh. Kotadia shall launch an other book on “Aerogrames with Advertising.”

Sh. Kotadia heralds a collection of post and pre-India Pakistan, Ceylon, Burma, Nepal, U.K, Newzealand and Australia. Basically, he is more interested in Indian themes. When asked wheather Philately was getting extinct, his views were that T.V and other medias were over shadowing the younger minds today and they needed to be channelised properly.

According to him, Philately in India needed more mileage whereas it is rapidly progressing abroad. Still, so many exhibitions in India prove that Philately in India is doing it’s best to come up. He added that the Indian Philatelists are more learned-intellectuals but some do lack expressions to present their knowledge.

Sh. Kotadia emphasized on the promotion of philately in children. He also said that stamp collections would always polish their historical and geographical knowledge.

About the Internet’s contribution to philately, Sh. Kotadia is of the opinion of introducing more websites related to philately.

Well, that was Sh. Surendra Kotadia for you. A truly literary personality in his own world of philately.
